Chinese Embassy and FSM Department of Foreign Affairs Host Reception celebrating the 25 years' Diplomatic Ties and the 65th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China

Chinese Embassy and FSM Department of Foreign Affairs co-hosted a reception on September 11, 2014, marking the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and FSM, and celebrating the 65th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. FSM Foreign Secretary Lorin Robert, Pohnpei State Governor John Ehsa, Chief of Staff of the President Leo Falcam Jr, SBOC Director Evelyn Adolph were among the 100 officials and representatives from the national and state government, diplomatic corps, international and regional organizations, as well as Chinese community in FSM who attended the reception. On the same day, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and FSM Foreign Secretary Lorin Robert exchanged congratulatory letters, in which they reviewed the accomplishments of bilateral relations scored during the past 25 years and looked forward to an even brighter future of the ties.

Chinese Ambassador Zhang Lianyun remarked that the 25 years' diplomatic relations is a major milestone in the path of China-FSM ties. He highlighted that both sides have rendered each other genuine support and assistance in the bilateral and multilateral fronts in the spirit of mutual respect and trust. Pragmatic cooperation has produced fruitful outcomes, the friendship between the two peoples has been deepening, and the bilateral relations have been in steady growth. Ambassador Zhang said, these achievements came at the great efforts of both sides and should be cherished. China is committed to conduct all-round pragmatic cooperation through closer and more frequent coordination and collaboration with FSM in a bid to make the growth of the ties better serve the interests of the peoples of two countries.

 

            
     
Ambassador Zhang also briefed the audience the achievements made by Chinese government and its people in the past year. He said that Chinese economy maintained steady and sound growth through vigorously promoted reform, economic readjustment, and the improvement of people's lives. Chinese people are proceeding steadily toward the "two centennial goals"  (namely, to complete the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects when the Communist Party of China celebrates its centenary in 2021, and to turn China into a modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced and harmonious when the People's Republic of China celebrates its centenary in 2049)  and are committed to the realizing of Chinese Dream of the great renewal of Chinese nation. Meanwhile, China still remains a developing country, facing uneven development between its urban and rural areas and among its different regions. Through its ongoing reform and opening up, China will offer great development opportunities to the international partners including FSM. China is committed to the peaceful development and is willing to make active contributions to the world peace alongside the international community.

 

           
     
FSM Foreign Secretary Lorin Robert remarked that the seed of friendship planted 25 years ago have grown into a towering tree. At present, both sides maintain frequent high level exchanges and active people to people communication, and keep close coordination and cooperation in international and regional organizations such as United Nations and Pacific Island Forum. FSM government and its people possess deep-seated feelings toward China and its people and sincerely appreciate the assistance and support given to FSM in its nation building and economic development. Mr. Lorin Robert said that FSM views China as a good friend and good partner, welcomes China to play a greater role in pacific regional affairs, and will continue to abide by the One China policy. FSM determines to join hands with China for an even brighter future of bilateral relations. He congratulated the 65th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and wished the Chinese people fulfill the Chinese Dream at an early date.

           
     

During the reception, Madams of Chinese diplomats and Madams of FSM foreign affairs officials staged cultural performance. Chinese and FSM traditional dress show, dances and Taichi (a kind of Chinese traditional martial arts) impressed guests and won rounds of applauses.
