China is a responsible fishing nation which follows a green and sustainable development path. China strictly fulfills its obligations stipulated by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and other multilateral treaties on fishing it has signed. China adopts a "zero tolerance" attitude towards illegal pelagic fishing, and is committed to upholding the order of pelagic fishery and protecting marine ecological environment.
Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China published a White Paper on the fulfillment of obligations by China on pelagic fishery, which comprehensively introduced China's principles and positions, policies and measures and fulfillment of obligations on its pelagic fishery administration. Some people from the US allegedly claiming Chinese fishing vessels were engaging in illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing is thoroughly ignorant of the fact. What the US is doing is politicizing IUU and distracting the global efforts in combating IUU fishing, which contributes nothing to protecting marine environment nor to encouraging international cooperation on sustainable fishery. We urge some people of the US to exercise caution in its words and deeds, stop political manipulation and don't sow discord between China and other nations.
