The National People's Congress of PRC donates the office equipments to the Congress of the FSM

The hand-over ceremony of the donated office equipments by the standing committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China to the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia was held on January 28, 2010 in Palikir.

H. E. Mr. ZHANG Weidong, Ambassador of PRC to the FSM and His Honourable Speaker Figir delivered the speech and signed the hand over certificate.

In his speech, Ambassador ZHANG quoted a Chinese saying: "a goose feather in itself is light, but if it is sent from a thousand kilometers away, the goodwill it conveys is deep", and said that the gift represents the 1.3 billion hearts of the Chinese people, and conveys the profound feeling of the Chinese people toward the FSM people. He believed that the development of bilateral ties between the two Congresses will be strengthened and brought tangible benefits to the peoples of the two countries and in turn, enhancing the friendship between China and the FSM.

Speaker Figir expressed the heartfelt thankfulness to China and the National People's Congress of PRC. He said the gift evidences the increasing spirit of cooperation that exists between PRC and the FSM and between the Congress of the FSM and the National People's Congress as institutions. He hopes the Congress will benefit from the exchange of experiences and ideas with the NPC. He also reiterated the commitment to the One-China policy.

In June 2009, a congress delegation headed by Chairman Welly of the Committee of External Affairs visited China on invitation from the NPC. During this visit, the NPC raised the donation. The donated office equipments arrived at the Pohnpei Port by sea at the end of December, 2009.
