2020/05/07

On April 28th, 2020, on behalf of the Chinese government, Ambassador Huang Zheng presented donation to Governor T.H. Reed B. Oliver at the request of the state government of Pohnpei. A handover ceremony was held in the Governor’s Cabinet room. Lieutenant Governor Mr. Feliciano M. Perman, Chief of Staff Mrs. Suzanne Lowe Gallen, Director of Health and Social Services Mr. Wincener David, Director of Treasury and Administration Ms. Christina Elinei, Pohnpei State COVID-19 Task Force Chairperson Dr. Marcelle Gallen, and Deputy Chief of Mission Counselor Zhang Weitao, among others, attended the ceremony.

In his remarks, Ambassador Huang introduced the major positive results that China achieved in epidemic prevention and control, the great contributions that China made to the global public health security, and its relentless efforts to promote international joint response and cooperation mechanism, especially to help nations around the world to enhance their capabilities to defeat the pandemic. Upholding the vision of building a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity and at the request of the Pohnpei State Government, China made this donation to implement the important consensus reached between Chinese President Xi Jinping and FSM President David W. Panuelo and to keep pushing forward the China-FSM Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to develop in length and in depth, and also to reciprocate the goodwill we received from the FSM earlier during the pandemic and to act on international humanitarianism. China is ready to work with FSM National Government and Pohnpei State Government to overcome the current challenge and vanquish this global public health crisis, and to jointly build a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity as well as a Community of Common Health for Humanity.

Governor Oliver sincerely appreciated China’s timely help and fully recognized China’s enormous sacrifice and great contributions to the global public health security. By making full use of this donation, Pohnpei State will cooperate with China to stem the COVID-19 spread, and to make joint efforts to build a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity as well as upgrade the China-FSM Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to a new high.
